Anne Flegal Smith

Partner, CCO, Client Advocate

I joined Jonathan Smith & Co. in 1988 just to help out with whatever the company needed but predictably, I soon became interested in our clients and how I could be part of the team to help them. I work with clients from the earliest interview stages through their financial lifetime – listening, probing, asking the hard questions, seeking the root causes of problems, and solving a wide range of financial challenges.

“Be that person who says “Hi” to dogs, waves to children, and greets the stranger on the street with a big smile.”

In 1969 girls who were awarded math and industrial engineering degrees were few and far between.  I was and Bell Labs scooped me up right out of Auburn as an engineer.  I entered the workforce as a computer programmer with a box of punched cards instead carrying around baby on my hip. Working at the Labs as a programmer and systems analyst for 15 years was an incredible experience.  I traveled and met people in all of the telephone operating companies across the country.  The work sharpened my communication skills and gave me an opportunity to be part of developing complex problem solutions. In 1984 I took about 3 years off so I could spend more time with our small children and think about next steps.

Over the years, we have been able to serve a large number of single female clients:professionals, entrepreneurs, widows, and divorcees.  I find those relationships especially significant in my being part of our team here at Smith Partners. Fun Facts About Anne

In my spare time, you could find me curled up with a book, digging around in my flower beds, listening to all types of music on the porch or at a concert.  You might also find me in a cooking class at the Edible Schoolyard or in our  kitchen. I love to cook and am in the process of developing a cooking the basics class for our 6,8, and 10 year old granddaughters. I spend most weekends at our nearby lake house where my chief responsibility is to throw 100s of tennis balls for our 2 Boykin Spaniels to retrieve from the lake. In November and December,  you will find me with thousands of mini Christmas lights wrapping them around chicken wire orbs and helping launch them into the 100 year old oaks in our front yard. This is part of the Shine the Light on Hunger project.
